The market is crowded, to say the least, but we’ve tested all kinds of models, like battery-powered options, classic canisters, and run-on-their-own robots. The best of the best is pricey, though, so Labor Day weekend is an ideal time to pick one up. Deals on our favorite brands include $200 off select Dyson models and up to 30 percent off a wet-dry Tineco, so decide which best suits your cleaning needs (and budget), below.
To effectively tackle those lint-filled, hard-to-reach cracks and crevices, spring for editor-favorite Dyson. Snag the V8 (our go-to) or V11 through September 10 for $100 off. Assistant editor Raven McMillan was impressed by the S5 she tested, noting its maneuverability, thorough baseboard cleaning skills, and overall power, which allowed her to breeze through cleaning all 1,900 square feet of her parents’ home in approximately 30 minutes. Another top pick from the Bissell bunch? Its Bagless Canister Vacuum, a light and already affordable option that’s effortless to move around the house.

Even after more than 100 years of history, Hoover remains a top choice for vacuum cleaners. Among the canister vacuums we’ve tested, Shark’s bagless Vertex Canister model walked (or rolled) away with the prize for “best bells and whistles.” Why? The setup was easy, it only weighs 9 pounds, the wand flexes so you can effortlessly get to those tough-to-reach spots, and there’s an LED smart display on the handle.
